1. do what you want to do – not what you think you should be doing. no, you’re not a loser for staying in on a friday.
2. but don’t use this as an excuse to skip out on moments that will be worthwhile; you can’t judge an experience from the comfort of your home. your rumpled covers and soft pajamas can be deceiving. sometimes staying home seems like the easier option, but I promise you will rarely regret going to that thing you didn’t really feel like going to.
3. if you’re feeling lonely or sad, it’s ok. sometimes we’re lonely, sometimes we’re sad, even if there’s nothing to be sad over, and even if everything will be fine in the morning. write about it, talk to someone to fill the void, and remember everything is temporary.
4. get some sleep. seriously, start going to bed early and see how it will change your morning, your day, your attitude, your perception of the world.
5. get up earlier more often, before anyone else. at 9am, you have the whole morning ahead of you. make it worthwhile.
6. do things that make you nervous
7. remind yourself to act more selflessly; if someone asks you for a favor, don’t think of it as a waste of time (“how will this benefit me?” “I could instead be doing this…”)
8. say you’re sorry not because it will absolve your own guilt but because you mean it
9. if you’re feeling shitty, don’t make yourself feel worse. if you feel like crap, why perpetuate it? why let things pile on one another until you’re feeling worse than you originally did? actively try to raise your spirits. you are in charge of your state of mind. so take charge
