First Days.

I have officially started college! I now embark on the journey towards my degree. Towards my career in optometry. I had two first days in a way because of classes I have that didn’t actually start until yesterday. But Monday was definitely a memorable first day.

Monday I got lost finding my first class. I got into the elevator but did not know which level to get off at. I asked a couple and said my classroom was located in the basement. I got off the elevator at the first open of the doors. My initial reaction was to look for stairs to go down. I found the stairs, but they didn’t go down any further. I started freaking out and saw the janitor. I ran to him and asked him how I can access the basement and he replied, “You’re in the basement.” I felt extremely dumb and then went in search for my classroom. It turns out I passed it on the way to the stairs. I met some very nice people on Monday.

Tuesday was my second “first day” because I have classes that only meet Tuesday and Thursday. It was a tiring Tuesday. I met a couple of people. Literally like two. I was disappointed. Luckily, Wednesday and Thursday I was able to meet even more people. People can be really friendly if you allow yourself to be as friendly. That is what I learned this week. I have to be the friendlier one if I want to make friends. Freshmen are so nervous and scared. It’s a new environment. New people. Some of us have to take action and make friends.

I honestly had a great first week of college. I love walking around my campus. I love seeing all the goodies sold. I love the two hippie dudes I talked to on Thursday. I loved meeting the people I did. I love hearing about the different cities people come from. I love hearing the different background stories people have. So many are foreign to the city, county, even state! I loved the mini lectures I got so far.

I am excited about all the learning I will be doing in each subject this semester, and each semester after this one. I am excited about all the people I have yet to meet and get to know. I am excited about all the growing I will do… I mean mentally, not in stature because God knows I may never. I don’t know if I will finish in four but I do hope so. I am not excited about the stress, but I am excited about all the good that is to come out of this college experience.

Here’s to a new chapter in my book of life! Here’s to my future!
